How am I progressing with LA3?

LA3, stands for Learning Arrangement 3. It’s sort of a module or course thats geared towards learning how to initiate and supervise the implementation of educational innovations. In light of this module, I am supposed to choose a topic on which to do an analysis and formulate improvement advises that are in line with various principles regarding a successful implementation of innovation in education. Michael Fullan a former Professor in Education who seems to have done some work in the field of educational innovations on an international level will be referred to in my investigations. This is not only based on the advises of my lecturers, but also my conviction that his insights appear to be quite useful.

I’ve read a book called “Our Iceberg is Melting” by John Kotter. Quite a humerous story line, but yet interesting when considering the concept of change and the effects it has within a community, group or an organization. Here is a link to a presentation  on the book: http://www.slideshare.net/ToeyNumber10/our-iceberg-is-melting-presentation

What’s important for me however, is the link between education reform, the grounds on which a given aspect of a reform should be implemented and the demands made towards all those involved for a succesfull implementation.

Which topic or aspect of educational reform would I be looking at?

Well, for now (and I think I’m going to stay here as well), I’ve chosen to investigate and/or analyse the process of implementing competency-based education (CBE) at the school I work at; the ICT academy of the Da Vinci College. Quite a complex task, as some of my fellow students of the MLI (Master of Learning and Innovating) would say, however, it coincides with my research of which I thought would be practical, however, at the same time, I’ll have to take such comments seriously and be as realistic with my investigation as much as I can. I need to set limitations.

So far I’ve managed to acquire documents on the topic from 2004 up until 2007. It’s really interesting to go back in time and see some of the things that were decided and carried out in light of the decision to implement urgency and views regarding the added value of this educational concept.

I’ve also spoken to a colleague who has been working at the Acacemy for quite a while. Since he’s following the MLI as well, it makes it quite easy to babble with him about the things I’m doing and visa-versa as well. to do some research at the school I work at with regards to the implementation of competency-based education.

Moving slowly with the develoment of my paper, however I managed to create a concept or outline and I’m intending to perservere.

Just can’t get around the reality of innovations in education today. And since I’m an absolute believer, I’m anxiously looking forward to an array of eye openers!
